Amphetamines Trade names: Benzedrine, Adderall, Dexedrine Street names: Speed, AMP, PEP, Bennies Effects: Amphetamines are known to suppress appetite, thirst and fatigue. The drug usually generates a state of euphoria with an elevated level of self-esteem and confidence, rapid talking, increased communicativeness and social responsiveness. Heavy drug usage may also cause anxiety and paranoia as well as mental problems with schizoid character. Physiological effects vary greatly, depending on dosage of the drug, but could include dilation of the pupils, bruxism (teeth grinding), lockjaw, hypertension, elevated pulse rate and body temperature. They are mainly utilized for their anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, muscle relaxing, sedative, soporific, amnesic and anti-depressing effects. As well as barbiturates, benzodiazepines may provoke "hangover" symptoms such as sleepiness, disturbance of equilibrium and vertigo.
